Ready To Go

In the original run of the comic I had a sort of similar story line where Scott and Curt go to a concert and run into another main character.  But oh 90 percent of it is so bad.  So all but three of the comics in the re-do of this story line are new.

The character of Scott has a lot of anxiety in general, a lot of fears in interacting with other people, and frankly, a lot of problems inherent in how he relates to women he is attracted to.  So I thought this situation, besides being an interesting setting, was an opportunity to show some of Scott’s flaws and the conflict between what he is and maybe, what he would like to be.  But a whole bunch of the original run went right off the rails, for several strips, deep into Scott’s overwhelming, self-hating anxiety.

Also, I’m trying hard to invest at least a little more energy in sketching in the other main characters. Curt is a little more confident than Scott and a lot more sarcastic.  Someone who believes he doesn’t care what other people think of him.  Drea is smart, not sure what she wants to do with her life and still very unsettled at this point in time.  I am trying very hard to stay out of the “manic pixie girl” trap.  Cindy is a genuinely nice person – I imagine that she’s from the midwest – but I’m still trying to figure out how to add a real dimension to her.  Phil, who we will get back to later in the year, is a guy who values himself for his competency, in his case his computer programming skills.
