Reading Comics! Daytripper by Fabio Moon and Gabriel Ba

Daytripper by Fábio Moon and Gabriel Bá, is dang good.  Just missed this when it came out but glad I grabbed a copy of the collected series.  The structure of it is really interesting – -I guess the structure of the story is a bit of a spoiler? but it’s been out since 2011 so I’m not sure it’s a big deal. Every chapter the main dies but then it’s a meditation on life and death and so this is not so much a gimmick as a way to provoke thinking about the chapter you’ve just read.  What’s important in life?  Why do we do what we do and make the choices we do… or don’t.

Alex + Ada is a three volume collection by Jonathan Luna and Sarah Vaughn.  It’s a good premise, if a little odd when trying to explain.  Lonely man-boy receives artificially intelligent companion-bot from satisfied customer grandmother.  It sets up great questions about being human, sentience, how society will deal with the infiltration of life by digital actors.  I liked it although I was a bit disappointed in the ending which just summarizes a lot of interesting material that probably should have been dealt with more expansively.
